Girls Soccer
Varsity: Central Valley 5, Johansen 1 (from Tuesday)
Varsity: Central Valley 6, Lathrop 0 (from Thursday)
The Lady Hawks varsity soccer team continued their dominant play this week as they picked up wins against both Johansen and Lathrop. On Tuesday, Beyer finished in a 0-0 tie with Pacheco which benefited the Hawks greatly. CV is now in sole possession of 1st place with just one game remaining in the season. The Hawks are 14-4-2 overall, 12-1 in the WAC while Beyer is now 11-1-1 in league play. CV controls their own destiny in pursuit of a WAC title as they will battle the Ceres Bulldogs at Ceres High on February 10th. The Hawks are also ranked #10 in DI as they playoff brackets will be posted on Wednesday of next week.
Boys Soccer
Varsity: Johansen 2, Central Valley 1 (from Tuesday)
Varsity: Central Valley 2, Lathrop 0 (from Thursday)
The varsity boys soccer (8-10-6 overall, 6-4-3 WAC) team split a pair of tough games as they battled two of the top teams in the league. The Hawks fell just short on Tuesday against 3rd place Johansen, but came out victorious last night against the 1st place Lathrop Spartans. The Hawks will still need a win against Ceres on Tuesday and some help with the rankings to get into the playoffs. The Hawks are currently ranked 18th in DI and must get into the top 15 for a playoff berth. The win against Lathrop should give them a chance to move up (once the rankings are updated) and another win would be needed next week to have a shot.
Boys Basketball
Varsity: Central Valley 67, Livingston 65
The Hawks traveled to Livingston this past Wednesday and escaped with a thrilling 2-point win over the Wolves. This was the 2nd time this season that the Hawks defeated the Wolves by 2 points. CV is now 11-14 overall, 6-5 in WAC play (4th place) going into tonight’s huge matchup with Johansen. A win tonight is a must if CV is to push towards a post-season berth as the Hawks sit just 1 game back of 3rd place Johansen (7-4). In Wednesday’s victory, CV was led by Parteek Sohal 18pts, Michael Martinez 14pts, Silas Rodriguez 14 pts, Xavier Manor 9pts, and Sebastian Gonzalez 7pts.
Girls Basketball
Varsity: Livingston 34, Central Valley 25 (from Tuesday)
Varsity: Johansen 38, Central Valley 28 (from Thursday)
The Lady Hawks dropped a pair of WAC games this week. CV put up a fight in both games, but couldn’t get over the hump. The Hawks will look to finish the season strong with a couple of road games. CV will travel to Lathrop next Tuesday to take on the Spartans and then close out the season at Ceres High on Thursday night.
